Claire Bloom


Patricia Claire Blume CBE is an English film and stage actress whose career has spanned over six decades. She is famous for leading roles in plays such as A Streetcar Named Desire, A Dolls House, and Long Days Journey into Night, and has starred in nearly sixty films.

Bloom was born as Patricia Claire Blume in the North London suburb of Finchley, the daughter of Elizabeth and Edward Max Blume, who worked in sales. Her paternal grandparents, originally named Blumenthal, as well as her maternal grandparents, originally named Gravitzky, were Jewish immigrants from Byten, in the Grodno region of Russia, now in Belarus, Eastern Europe.12
